Session 2008-2009: Ab Extra
The Society is named "Ab Extra", the Latin phrase meaning "from without". Despite the novelty of Ab Extra, our committee has set down the motto for this year: "first come, first serve." This means as the founding committee of the Undergraduate Law Society, CUSU, we strive to do our best and be the first to serve the members within the Society.

Session 2009-2010: Fides
The word Fides signifies the true values of our student union. Its Latin meaning of faith, promise, trust and loyalty not only expresses our attitudes as the newly elected committee members, but also our guarantee to all law students of benevolent consideration, from academic enrichment to stress-relieving activities. We will carry on striving for the aims laid down by the founding committee ad based on the colours that they have skillfully brought out from the Undergraduate Law Society, we hope to add more shine and sparkle to this student organization to create ground-breaking traditions.

Session 2010-2011: Excenesis
The word "Excenesis" is a portmanteau of the Latin words "excedo" and "genesis". "Excedo" means to go beyond, surpass and exceed, whereas "genesis" refers to an origin, a start, or a point at which something comes into being. The combination of the two words symbolizes our mission, which is to excel and open a new era of the Undergraduate Law Society, CUSU. It represents our determination to serve our members, our commitment to promote the Faculty of Law of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and our dedication to the betterment of the society.

Session 2011-2012: Aestus
"Aestus", a latin word meaning "heat, passionate fire," denotes our attitude to work. Beginning with a spark, fire is contagious and it carries along everything on its way; fire purifies, comforts, and provides warmth as it reveals and illuminates. Our society motto - "to illuminate with passion", describes our vision and approach to working for society members.

Session 2012-2013: Navidus
The word "Navidus" is a portmanteau of two Latin words "navigo" and "sidus". "Navigo" means to navigate and to explore while "sidus" means stars. Stars signify the path to a bright future. "Navidus" symbolizes our aims and missions to extend the coverage of work of the Society. Our motto is "Navigate beyond horizons", we pledge to pursue excellence with our unyielding dedication, determination and enthusiasm.

Session 2013-2014: Curpadis
Curpadis is a portmanteau of two Latin words, namely cursor and padis. Cursor signifies a runner whereas padis means brightness and shine. Curpadis symbolizes a bright runner, which best describes the passion and energy that we poccess. The future ahead of us though is shrouded in a veil of mist, we Curpadis will do our utmost to bring every bit of shine along the way.

Session 2016-2017: Aquila
“Aquila” is the Latin word for an eagle, and in a Roman context, it is also the symbol for a legion. Eagles are often seen as the ruler of the skies, with majestic wings and the ability to navigate endless skies with ease. We hope to embody the freedom and power of the eagle, reaching new heights and exploring never before seen possibilities. While in a Roman context, the eagle embodied unity and hope, as the sight of it would mean allies were near. We strive to be that Aquila, watching over each and every member of the Undergraduate Law Society, ensuring that they are provided with internal and external opportunities that will equip them with the skill sets and connections needed to become successful legal professionals in the near future.

Lucida is the 10th Executive Committee of the Undergraduate Law Society of the Student Union of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Latin for the brightest star in a constellation, the name Lucida symbolises our values and ideals for the upcoming year. Like stars, we hope to become a source of light which will brighten and illuminate the lives of all ULS Basic Members.
